Three Club Holiday Party

Here is the information regarding the Holiday Party that is hosted by the Cancer Support Group with Funny Business and Joy Klowns.

DATE:           Friday, December 19, 2008

TIME:            5PM – 10PM (or…?????)

LOCATION: Seal Beach Leisure World      CLUBHOUSE – 3   ROOM – 2                        13918 Seal Beach Boulevard
                     Seal Beach, CA  90740

The Cancer Support Group is small and they wanted to have a fun party and asked if the clowns could be a part of their party.  So they invited the Seal Beach Leisure World Joy Klowns and Funny Business and both clubs said YES. If possible, ANYONE who wants to come as a clown, it would cheer up the people in the Cancer Support Group.  It would mean so much to them. They requested clowns if possible. Many have already said that they will be there dressed “in clown”.

POT LUCK:  This will be a potluck.  Virginia in the Cancer Support Group is coordinating the food.  Call her at 562/431-8794 to either find out what food is needed and/or to let her know what you are bringing that night.  We do not want to have tooooooo much of certain things and not enough of other things. Please RSVP so that we know how many people to feed. You are welcome to bring a significant other.

And Lillian Loring (AKA Diamond Lil’) is coordinating the entertainment.  And it will be FANTASTIC.  Last year the Cancer Support Group held their holiday party and heard a group playing down the hall.  They went down to check them out and they were called “THE NO NAME BAND”.  They are professional and some have worked with big names in the big band era.  They came down and played for our party.  They have consented to be with us again this year (Clowns and others – get on your dancing shoes if you are so inclined). And the band also has great singing voices. Deanna is part of the Cancer Support Group with a FANTASTIC singing voice and she has said she would do some singing for the party.  And in Lil’s involvement in Leisure World activities, she came upon Dan who is an opera singer.  He has consented to be there singing also.  So we have our entertainment covered for the evening.

For those who wish to participate, there will be a $5 gift exchange.  If you want to be part of this then bring a gift. It is not required if you do not want to participate.  The party is FREE but if you want to give a $5 donation to cover some of the expenses that come with a party (as a few are paying for all the extras) that would be nice.  As we did not say which club would be donating what for the party so a few people just took it on and are purchasing the necessities and should be reimbursed.

I will be getting their early to help Lil’ and the others set up.  Come, AS A CLOWN (or not) and just HAVE FUN.  If you get lost, contact Pam “TWINKLES d’ KLOWN” House – Cell (562) 335-9711 or Lillian “DIAMOND LIL” Loring  - Cell (562) 481-7300.

It is off the Garden Grove (22) Freeway at Seal Beach Boulevard.  When you get off on Seal Beach Boulevard, at the bottom of the off ramp you will turn south towards the ocean.  It will be the first stop sign on the right side that is the entrance to Leisure World.  At the “gate” you will tell them you are part of the cancer support groups holiday party that is being held in Clubhouse 3.  They will direct you to there.  And if you are dressed as a clown, they definitely know you are going to the party.

THE JIMENEZ FAMILY

A few years back during the holidays we sponsored two families at the Travel Country Trailer Park on Harbor Boulevard in Garden Grove.  This trailer park is low income and many are single parent families.  We voted at the October meeting to sponsor another family at this trailer park this year.  The family that we have been given has the specks below as follows:

THE JIMENEZ FAMILY (4 children) – Space #129

They would all like gift cards from Target

  1. Eduardo Jimenez – 10 year old boy
  2. Javier Jimenez – 17-year boy
  3. Oscar Jimenez – 18-year old boy
  4. Martin Jimenez – 20 year old boy

The trailer park is near a Target shopping center, which is probably why they want a gift card, and then they can get what they want.  Each child should get the same amount dollar wise on target gift cards.  We should not set a minimum or a limit and members should give from the heart.  A suggestion would be that the members that want to give could do a total of $20, which would be a $5 gift card for each child.  Then no matter how many of the members gave to the family, the total would be the same for each child no matter how many did decide to give to the family.  This is just a suggestion so any other ideas, you can contact me, Pam House, at (562) 431-5785.

A Christmas party/barbeque will be held at the trailer park on December 20th at 11AM.  I will be there as TWINKLES d’ KLOWN.  I will either do balloons (they like my wild hats) or face painting. The trailer park is on Harbor Boulevard on the west side of the street between the Garden Grove (22) freeway and Lampson Avenue.  The sign at the trailer park has been taken down so the address is not posted either.  If anyone wants to go, let me know.  If not and you will be at the Holiday party the night before, you can give me your gift for the family that night. You need to put the name of the child and the space number on the gift.  TWINKLES d’ KLOWN will be taking what is given to me for the family that we have sponsored to the party the next day.  - THANK YOU ALL -  Pam House

The Great Southern California Shake-Out

This is the first year in a long time that I did not go to the WRCA clown convention in Laughlin Nevada.  It was the same week as THE GREAT SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SHAKE OUT.  It was the largest earthquake preparedness drill in California’s history that was held on November 13th and organized by “The Earthquake Country Alliance”.  I was deciding if I should go to the convention or not so I did not sign up early for the “shake out”.  But I went on line to find out the details and what I could do as an individual person.  There was a certain time that the earthquake would hit.  I had two groups that I worked with.  I take a ukulele class and was to work with the school district at the venue where our class was held.  And then I worked ahead of time with a friend’s workplace in an office building.  The earthquake happened while I was in my ukulele class.  Then later I went to my friend’s office to do my checklist and see how well the office did from the training I had given them. They made no major mistakes but there were some things that they either missed or did not do correctly.  And we went over what they missed or did wrong.  It was a very good drill and gave me a “refresher” on earthquake preparedness.  I had been the disaster control co-coordinator of the building that I managed at Douglas Aircraft Company and we held monthly meetings and I learned lots back then.  I remembered 99% of what I had learned and that was very good.  Are you earthquake prepared?  - Pam –
